Valiant Scribe Returns in 2026 — Submissions & Scholarships Update

Newsletter

17 December 2025

Dear friends,

After a brief hiatus, Valiant Scribe is returning in 2026, and we’re glad to welcome you back.

We offer a two-month no-fee reading period from February 1 to March 31, open to all genres we publish. In addition, our year-round general call for submissions opens January 15 to December 15, with a $5 reading fee introduced to support the journal’s operations. Submissions to the year-round call that are not accepted will receive brief editorial feedback.

In 2026, the journal will engage more intentionally with Christian perspectives, while continuing to publish work that thoughtfully explores social issues and the human condition. Writers from all backgrounds and locations are welcome to submit.

Please note that there will be no poetry competition, artistic showcase, contributor interviews, or anthology publication this year as we focus on sustaining our core publishing and scholarship work.

Our two educational scholarships — the Naomi Kambai Ayis Scholarship (for primary and secondary students in Nigeria) and the Billy Ayis Scholarship (for university students in Nigeria) — will continue as usual. Applications will open on June 1 and close on June 30, with recipients announced at the end of August. Students outside Nigeria who may need educational financial aid are welcome to contact us directly.

We’ve also launched a Donate page, primarily to support the ongoing work of the journal. If you’re able, we invite you to share it with others who may wish to support our mission.

Thank you for being part of the Valiant Scribe community. We look forward to reading your work and continuing the conversation in 2026.

Warmly,
The Valiant Scribe Team
